Case numbers for county at the lowest since September and no

-

NEW daily coronavirus cases in Derbyshire are at levels not seen for almost six months, new data shows.

The latest Government statistics show 59 cases were reported yesterday – and no hospital deaths.

That figure is well down on a week ago, when 97 cases were recorded.

Analysis of the Government figures shows that these are the lowest figures in the county since September 26 last year, when 51 cases were registered. Fifty-nine cases were also reported on March 14, but there were two deaths on that day, making yesterday’s figures the best in almost six months.

The data shows that the most new cases reported were in Derby, where 15 cases were registered.

Everywhere else was in single figures.

The numbers of new cases reported in Derbyshire in the most recent 24-hour period ares as follows:

■■Amber Valley – 8,438 (nine new cases)

■■Bolsover – 5,804 (five new cases)

■■Chesterfield – 5,983 (six new cases)

■■Derby – 19,623 (15 new cases)

■■Derbyshire Dales – 2,854 (two new cases)

■■Erewash – 6,849 (five new cases)

■■High Peak – 4,803 (eight new cases)

■■North East Derbyshire – 5,805 (three new cases)

The Government said a further 110 people had died in the UK within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 125,690.

That is less than half that of a week ago, when 231 deaths were confirmed, and a third of the 343 figure a fortnight ago. In the seven days to yesterday, 893 people lost their lives to the virus, which is a third fewer than the previous week.

A total of 125,690 people have died in the UK as a result of coronavirus since the pandemic first arrived.

On Monday, 64 deaths were reported, the lowest Monday death figure since October 5. On that date, 19 people were confirmed to have died within 28 days of contracting the virus.
