One dies with virus as 94 test positive

ANOTHER person has died after testing positive for coronaviru­s in a local NHS hospital, according to official figures.

The death occurred at Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, where so far 1,620 people have died from Covid-19.

It brings the total number of people to have died from the virus in Derbyshire hospitals to 2,070 since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, another 94 new cases of coronaviru­s were recorded across the county in the last 24 hours. Derby once again discovered the most new cases, after 20 positive tests were returned.

Erewash and South Derbyshire also reported a high number of cases. In total 17 were recorded in Erewash, while 16 were found in South Derbyshire.

The lowest number of cases – two – were found in High Peak.

The new cases are significan­tly higher than the number recorded on Tuesday, when 59 were discovered across the county. The figures were the best seen in Derbyshire for almost six months.

The total number of new cases reported in Derbyshire in the last 24 hours:

■ Amber Valley – 8,446 (+8)

■ Bolsover – 5,817 (+13)

■ Chesterfie­ld – 5,989 (+6)

■ Derby – 19,643 (+20)

■ Derbyshire Dales – 2,857 (+3)

■ Erewash – 6,866 (+17)

■ High Peak – 4,805 (+2)

■ N.E Derbyshire – 5,814 (+9)

■ South Derbyshire – 7,099 (+16). A further 141 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, taking the UK total to 125,831.
