Two more die in trust hospitals with virus and 95 test positive

ANOTHER two people have died from coronaviru­s in Derbyshire hospitals, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

Both of the deaths occurred in Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, where 1,622 people have now died as a result of the pandemic.

It brings the total number of deaths in Derbyshire hospitals to 2,072 since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, a further 105 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded across Derbyshire, according to Government figures.

A total of 26 cases were recorded in Derby, where the total number of coronaviru­s cases now stands at 19,669. Outside of the city, South Derbyshire recorded the highest number of new cases, after 15 positive tests were returned.

Bolsover and Erewash also had a high number of new cases, with each area reporting 13.

The lowest number of cases were found in Derbyshire Dales, where just five were recorded.

■ South Derbyshire - 7,114 (+15)

The Government said a further 91 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Thursday, bringing the UK total to 125,926. Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificat­e, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 148,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

Locally, the number of Covidrelat­ed hospital deaths since the start of the pandemic is as follows:

■ Chesterfie­ld Royal - 411 (no change)

■ Derbyshire Community Health Services - 37 (no change)

■ Derbyshire Healthcare - 2 (no change)

The Government also said that, as of 9am Thursday, there had been a further 6,303 lab-confirmed cases It brings the total to 4,280,882. Government data up to March 17 shows of the 27,614,526 jabs given in the UK so far, 25,735,472 were first doses – a rise of 462,246 on the previous day. Some 1,879,054 were second doses, an increase of 119,609.
