Tram attraction opening outside areas from April

-

CRICH Tramway Village, home to the National Tramway Museum, plans to reopen its outside areas from Monday April 12, to Sunday, May 16, subject to Covid-19 guidelines.

The Derbyshire attraction will be open Saturdays through to Thursdays from 10am to 4.30pm (last admissions 3pm) under the government guidance for Step 2.

Outside areas including the outdoor playground and woodland walk will be accessible and some trams will be running.

General manager, Dr Mike Galer said: “The same Covid-19 measures will be in place as we operated last season, including social distancing, hand sanitizing, PPE for staff, screens at information points and tills and takeaway catering service, with some outside seating.”

The trams, which are crewed by a team of volunteers, will be limited, and face coverings should be worn as per the national guidance for public transport.

Members of the public will need to book a timed ticket for tram rides on arrival, and there will only be one stop for getting on and alighting the trams, to help ensure the safety of passengers, volunteers and staff.

Face coverings will also be required to be worn in the shops (the same exemptions as for public transport apply).

The museum has produced a “Covid-19 Crich Tramway Village guidance” sheet, which describes what visitors can expect and this can be downloaded from www. tramway.co.uk

In line with other venues, the indoor exhibitions, tram depot and soft play area will remain closed and the numbers in indoor areas such as the shops and on the trams will be limited. Card and contactless payments are preferred, and full-priced tickets can be purchased online from April.

Marketing manager, Amanda Blair said: “For the period between April 12 and May 16 we have introduced special day rates, which are payable on arrival. Visitors who still have valid annual tickets or annual membership may use these to return”.
