FINES FOR CHATSWORTH BARBECUE

ONE more person with Covid-19 has died in a Derbyshire hospital, according to figures released exactly a year after the UK’s first lockdown was ordered.

The new death was recorded at Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, taking the total number of deaths at the NHS trust to 1,639.

There have now been 2,090 coronaviru­s-related fatalities at Derbyshire hospitals.

Meanwhile, there were 72 new cases recorded across Derbyshire and Derby in the latest 24-hour reporting period, according to Government statistics released yesterday.

There were 16 new positive tests in Derby and 56 across the wider county.

Outside of Derby, South Derbyshire and High Peak recorded the biggest increase in cases, with ten each.

The lowest number of cases was found in Derbyshire Dales, where just four new cases were recorded in the latest 24-hour period. The new figures bring the total number of cases in Derbyshire since the start of the pandemic to 67,895.

POLICE issued a number of Covid-19 fines after people were spotted having a barbecue within the grounds of Chatsworth House.

Officers handed five people with £200 fines after they were called by a member of the public on Sunday. The group was from three different households, police said.

Meeting friends for a barbecue is currently classed as a non-essential trip.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 5,379 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

Police safer neighbourh­ood team said: “The group from three households thought it was okay to sit and have a barbecue and picnic. The group were dispersed. We understand that the lockdown has been hard for people, but we ask that the public stick with the rules.”

A spokespers­on for Chatsworth House said: “We would like to remind everyone of the importance of adhering to Covid restrictio­ns, and we are grateful to the police for ensuring the rules are followed.”

Government data up to March 22 shows of the 30,691,557 jabs given in the UK so far, 28,327,873 were first doses – a rise of 329,897 on the previous day. Some 2,363,684 were second doses, an increase of 82,300.
