A YOUNG Royal Air Force serviceman from Derby who died in a motorway crash has been described by his heartbroken family as a “bright, loving person who had a smile for everyone”.

Harvey Blount was a passenger in a white Audi A3 which left the M42 and collided with a sign before continuing down an embankment.

The crash took place as the 18-year-old was returning to his base at MOD St Athan, in South Wales, after visiting his mum for Mother’s Day on Sunday, March 14.

Despite life support treatment from ambulance and fire crews, Mr Blount died at the scene.

Now his parents, Sally and Jody, have shared a heartfelt tribute to their beloved son who “always saw the good in everyone”.

The tribute, shared on behalf of the family by West Mercia Police, reads: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we have to announce the sudden passing of our son Harvey Blount, he is the beloved son to Sally and Jody; and brother to Tayler and Daisy.

“Sadly, he was involved in a car accident on Sunday evening returning to his RAF base after visiting his mum for Mother’s Day. We as a family are crestfallen and beside ourselves with grief at this difficult time.

“Harvey was a bright, loving person who had a smile for everyone. We were so proud of him and he always saw the good in everyone. He took on life with ease and made the most challenging things seem like nothing.

“We will miss him forever and the pain will never go away. We can’t put into words how much we love you. Lots of love from the family xxx”.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were all called to the westbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions three and two at Alvechurch, Worcestershire following the collision which took place at around 8.15pm on March 14.

Officers said the driver and another passenger exited the vehicle with non-serious injuries but were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, as a precaution.

West Mercia Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage following the fatal collision.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Rich Allen, from the local operations patrol unit, by calling 01527 583766, quoting reference 562i of March 14 in any correspondence.

PC Allen said: “This is a sad incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased man. “We are appealing for anyone with dash cam footage of the area around the time of the incident to submit this to us via Operation Snap on our website to help with our investigation.”
