Parks and open spaces get £520k to play with

PLANNING CONTRIBUTI­ONS WILL FUND IMPROVEMEN­TS

A MAJOR funding boost has been granted to improve parks and open spaces in a Derbyshire district.

A total of 26 different areas around Amber Valley will have play areas and recreation­al spaces upgraded through more than £520,000 of investment.

The biggest project will see £118,000 worth of improvemen­ts made to Aldercar Recreation Ground, in Langley Mill, where there will be a new play provision for toddlers, as well as a wider upgrade of facilities.

Riddings Park, near Alfreton, is to get an improved play area and new facilities for young people worth £62,000.

Elsewhere, £70,000 will be invested in Heanor as a contributi­on towards a proposed skate and BMX park at Lockton Avenue Park.

Amber Valley Borough Council confirmed the money has been received from building developers as part of their planning permission agreements.

The section 106 funds are contributi­ons from developers towards the enhancemen­t of public open spaces.

Councillor John McCabe, the borough council’s portfolio holder for environmen­t, said: “These plans are a great example of section 106 agreements in action.

“Communitie­s across the borough will benefit from a wide range of exciting projects, all of which will make a positive impact on the local environmen­t.”

Here is the full list of the biggest projects planned for Amber Valley with the £520,000 investment: £118,000 for improvemen­ts to Aldercar Recreation Ground, which will include new play provision for toddlers, as well as a wider upgrade of facilities to turn it into more of a community park.

£62,000 to Riddings Park to improve the play area and provide new facilities for young people.

£70,000 in Heanor as a contributi­on towards a proposed skate and BMX park at Lockton Avenue Park.

£56,000 for a multi-use games area in Ripley.

£41,000 for improvemen­ts to Barn Close Recreation Ground in Quarndon.

£17,500 for Snowberry Ave in Belper, to develop a new community orchard.

£28,000 for improvemen­ts to Bramble Way play area in Kilburn.

£14,532 for Somercotes Recreation Ground play area.
