Just two areas record double-figure increase in new cases of Covid-19

ANOTHER 55 cases of coronaviru­s were recorded across Derbyshire yesterday, down from 76 the previous day, according to official figures.

Just two areas of the county have recorded double-figure increases in the last 24 hours, with the other seven areas coming in with six cases or fewer.

The highest number of Covid-19 cases were recorded in Derby, which found 17 new cases of the virus, and now has a total of 19,901.

South Derbyshire recorded the second-highest number of cases of the virus across the county in the last 24 hours - 10.

Derbyshire Dales and High Peak had the lowest number of new cases, with one and three respective­ly.

The figures mean there have been 68,370 cases of coronaviru­s found in Derbyshire since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, no more deaths from the virus have been recorded in NHS trusts serving the county.

The total number of cases reported in Derbyshire (figure in brackets indicates new cases recorded in the previous 24 hours).

The Government said a further 56 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 126,670.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificat­e, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 150,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 4,040 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,341,736.

■■Derbyshire Healthcare - 2 (0) Government data up to March 29 shows that of the 34,518,958 jabs given in the UK so far, 30,680,948 were first doses – a rise of 236,119 on the previous day. Some 3,838,010 were second doses, an increase of 163,744.
