Special measures to keep our shops and shoppers safe
CUSTOMERS visiting non-essential shops reopening across Derbyshire next week will need to follow a number of Covid safety measures set out by the Government.
All non-essential shops will be among the businesses allowed to reopen in England for the first time since January. Shoppers will need to follow fresh Government guidelines when visiting stores in Derby and the wider county from Monday.
Among the shopping centres reopening will be Derbion, formerly Intu Derby, in the city centre, and McArthurGlen East Midlands Designer Outlet, in South Normanton. Some stores including
Primark in Derby’s Corn Market have extended their opening hours for the easing of restrictions.
Shops and shoppers will need to follow the Government’s “Covid-secure” measures - which state exactly what precautions people must take to help keep Covid infections under control when outlets reopen.
This is in addition to mandatory face masks and social-distancing laws.
One-way systems and barriers will also be put in place in many stores, in measures that will replicate how supermarkets have operated throughout the pandemic. Changing rooms will be open, but under the following guidance:
“The enclosed nature of fitting rooms may result in increased risk of transmission of Covid-19. They should therefore be carefully managed to reduce that risk.
“Retail businesses should update their risk assessments for each premises where fitting rooms are being used.”
Longer opening hours in England will help people return to our high streets safely.
Temporary measures will be in place to make socially-distanced shopping easier to continue. Longer opening hours for retail to give shoppers more flexibility and ease transport pressures.
Flexible working hours for construction will also continue, helping industry continue to operate safely.
