Virus claims two lives in our hospitals

TWO further coronaviru­s-related deaths have been recorded at an NHS health trust operating in Derbyshire.

The fatalities, which occurred within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test, were at Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, and bring the total deaths there since the start of the pandemic to 1,648.

The deaths reported by NHS England mean that the total number of people who have died since the start of the pandemic in the county now stands at 2,101.

Another 34 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Derbyshire, according to statistics released by the Government on Wednesday. The total includes eight positive tests in Derby and 26 across the wider Derbyshire area. After three consecutiv­e days with no new cases reported in Derbyshire Dales, it yesterday recorded four. There was no coronaviru­s increase in Amber Valley.

The figures bring the total of recorded coronaviru­s cases in Derby and Derbyshire to 68,716.

■■South Derbyshire 7,292 (4) Nationwide, the Government said a further 45 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, bringing the UK total to 126,927. Separate figures from the UK’s statistics agencies show there have been 150,000 deaths registered where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificat­e.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 2,763 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,367,291.
