FIVE Guys is to open a new branch at a Derbyshire-based designer outlet village.

The American burger chain will be opening later this year at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet East Midlands, in South Normanton, near Alfreton.

An exact opening date has not yet been confirmed but the outlet will be based in the food court, adjacent to Wagamama’s, when it is ready to start serving customers.

David Jackson, centre manager at the centre, said: “We look forward to welcoming Five Guys to the centre later this year and know that it will be a popular choice for our guests.

“Expanding and developing our food and beverage offering is something we will focus on following the reopening, so keep your eyes peeled!”

There is also a Five Guys restaurant at the Derbion shopping centre, formerly Intu Derby, in Derby city centre. The chain is known for its burgers, fries and milkshakes.

McArthurGlen Designer Outlet East Midlands, which boasts more than 50 stores including Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, Nike and Adidas, is set to reopen next week.

The shopping complex has been closed since January 6, following Government guidelines, but will reopen on Monday, April 12 with a number of health and safety measures in place.

Initially the centre, just off junction 28 of the M1, will reopen with restricted customer capacity.

All non-essential retail can reopen from Monday, along with hair and nail salons, outdoor bars and restaurants for table service, libraries and gyms.

It also includes department stores, book shops, technology stores and high street stalwarts.

Retailers will be allowed to open until 10pm as the Government seeks to bolster the high street. A new campaign is calling for a “Shop Out to Help Out” initiative, designed to save Britain’s independent high street shops, which have taken a financial hit during the pandemic.

It also announced that fitting rooms will be allowed to open from Monday, after the Department for

Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) provided guidance on how shops can minimise contact between shoppers in these areas.

Face masks could still be required for shops until June 21, the earliest point at which the country could return fully to normal living, the Government has said.
