Designer Outlet retail gears up for Monday reopening

- By GURJEET NANRAH gurjeet.nanrah@reachplc.com

AS the retail sector prepares to reopen on April 12, a leading designer outlet in Derbyshire has announced its new opening times.

Non-essential retail will resume from next week as restrictions are eased further and McArthurGlen East Midlands Designer Outlet will welcome back customers from 9am on Monday.

The outlet in South Normanton is home to big-name brands but nonessential stores have not been open since early January when the centre closed following the lockdown announcement in January.

Customers can now shop in the centre from 9am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and from

10am to 6pm on Sundays, when some restrictions on customer capacity will be in place in the first instance.

The outlet’s flagship stores including Barbour, Molton Brown and Under Armour are also due to reopen following their 2020 launch, and the centre has since added to its offering of eateries.

Hugo Boss, Adidas, and Clarks are among other stores set to reopen on Monday, April 12.

David Jackson, centre manager at McArthurGlen, said: “We have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the centre is ready for reopening.

“The health and safety of our guests and staff is paramount.

“We pride ourselves in going above and beyond to ensure our customers’ visit is a safe and enjoyable one after the most recent closure of non-essential retail, and we will continue this after April 12.

“My team and I are looking forward to welcoming shoppers back on Monday.”

The Designer Outlet’s food and drink partners, including 200 Degrees, Costa Coffee, and Wagamama will also reopen from April 12, offering takeaway only but seating areas will remain open.

While customers will not be able to consume food and drink within the centre, additional outdoor seating has been provided within the centre gardens. Capacity restrictions will be in place to manage the volume of guests visiting the centre.

Social distancing and hygiene measures remain active ahead of the reopening, with markers to remind shoppers of the recommended two-metre social distancing guidance.

The centre’s toilets will be cleaned every 30 minutes and hand sanitisers will be available for guests to use in common areas.

Clear markers outside of all stores will be visible to ensure social distancing is adhered to at all times; with a queue management system in place during peak shopping times and oneway systems to ensure a safe flow of visitor traffic throughout the centre.
