Roberts hits hat-trick for early leaders

-

ALLENTON United top the G&T Jenkins Midlands Regional Alliance Premier Division Cup Group A after a 6-2 win away against Little Eaton, writes Dan Bishop.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic, however, as Little Eaton led twice before being pegged level at the interval, eventually being overpowered by the visitors in the second half.

Gav McCready fired Little Eaton in front after only seven minutes but former Derby County forward Marcus Tudgay quickly levelled.

Ed McIntyre restored Little Eaton’s lead midway through the half when he chipped the visitors’ keeper from outside the box and it looked as though they would head into the break ahead before L’varn Brandy equalised with a goal direct from a corner on 44 minutes.

Allenton went ahead for the first time courtesy of Shaun Roberts’ 52nd-minute volley and Roberts soon doubled his tally from close range to make it 4-2.

Luke Stone made it 5-2 after 67 minutes and Roberts completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot with eight minutes to go after playermanager Danny Briscoe had been fouled in the box.

Allenton lead the group on goal difference from Derby Singh Brothers, who won 6-3 at Castle Donington, and Moira United, who won 3-1 away against Rolls-Royce Leisure thanks to goals from James Ward (2) and James Warren.

In Group B, Sleetmoor United ran out 3-0 winners away against Ashbourne Reserves with goals from Michael Chapman, Connor Mogford and Harry Morton.

Cromford & Wirksworth Town got their cup campaign off to a winning start with a 2-1 victory against Mayfield.

Burton United lead the way in Group A of the Division One Cup, despite having to come from behind at home to Hilton Harriers Reserves.

Callum Samson and a Harry Baines penalty gave Hilton a two-goal lead but Ben Holder (2) and Brad Wright helped the hosts come back to take the points.

Melbourne Dynamo won 5-1 away against Newhall United, with Callum Horton grabbing a hat-trick – the pick of which was a left-footed freekick from just outside the box – alongside goals from Dominic Hurst and veteran Dave Brough.

Jordan Wilkins headed a consolation goal for Newhall.

Samuel Taylor gave Acorn Albion an early lead at Willington but Lewis Wilson quickly levelled before putting the hosts in front in the 49th minute.

Stephen Walters struck on 63 minutes to make it 3-1 and Tom Braithwaite completed the scoring for Willington five minutes from time.

UDSU Derby made it two wins from two in Group B.

Joe Smalley (2), Tom Simms, Tino Mtangdura, Isaac Hutton, and Kirk Broomhead were on target as they beat Little Eaton Reserves 6-1.

Bargate Rovers won 2-1 at home to Sherwin, with George Marshall and Kyle Reece netting for the hosts and Owen Evans scoring for the visitors.

Melbourne Dynamo Development lead the way in Group A of the Division Two Cup after a 6-1 victory at Derby United.

Tom Woodward scored for the hosts but Connor Poynton (3), Jake Hull, Gavin Spencer and Ewan Barnes ensured it was the visitors who took the spoils.
