Dad Ricky died after suffering ‘stab wounds’ inquest hears

-

AN inquest has heard a father died after being stabbed in Derbyshire.

Ricky Collins, aged 31 was found with stab wounds in Westthorpe Road, Killamarsh, on the evening of Monday, March 29.

He later died at the Northern General Hospital, in Sheffield. A murder investigation was subsequently launched by Derbyshire police.

Peter Nieto, area coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, opened an inquest into Mr Collins’ death at Chesterfield Coroner’s Court before adjourning it pending the outcome of the police investigation.

Mr Nieto said: “The reason I’m opening this inquest is that I have very clear reason to believe that his death was not a natural causes death, as the post-mortem report indicates that he died after being stabbed.”

A report from pathologist Dr Stuart Hamilton read out at the hearing recorded a provisional cause of death of stab wounds.

Mr Nieto adjourned the inquest to a review date set for June 17, depending on the status of the police investigation.

Last week, police confirmed they have now recovered a silver Vauxhall Astra from an address in Sheffield which was believed to be connected to the case.

Det Insp Chris Marriott, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’re grateful for the response we have received from members of the public, and would still encourage people to come forward if they have any information. If you do not want to report information to police, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, completely anonymously.”
