Huge fire breaks out on moorland

-

THIS spectacular picture shows a huge blaze that broke out on Peak District moorland.

Firefighters were called to land above Tintwistle at around 11pm on Wednesday.

The finally succeeding in putting out the flame the early hours of yesterday morning.

The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed but firefighter crews said they would return to the site again to inspect it.

The flames from the blaze were visible from miles away. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted at 11.15pm on Wednesday.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: “Tintwistle Low Moor update. Crews from Glossop Fire Station extinguished the fire in the early hours of the morning and will be attending the site again ... for a re-inspection of the area.”

It comes less than two weeks after two fires caught hold in the Peak District – on April 1 and April 4.

Those fires, which destroyed acres of land, are thought to have been caused by barbecues going out of control, leading to firefighters to warn people against having them in the Peak District.

Following the second fire, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Act responsibly - do not take barbecues into the Peak District.

“Moorland fires not only destroy our beautiful countryside, they destroy vital habitat for our wildlife. They are labour intensive and take vital emergency services away from being available to respond to other emergencies.

“Help us spread the message that taking barbecues into the Peak District is irresponsible no matter how careful you think you are being.”
