POLICE are searching for fly-tippers who have blighted parts of Derbyshire by dumping dead animals and soiled toilet paper.

Officers from Derbyshire police say there has been a spate of incidents in which people have been dumping waste in rural areas in recent weeks.

Among these is the discovery of four dead cockerels, which were found in a cage near a field in Findern.

Other vile finds include partiallyused toilet roll and wet wipes after a “party in Littleover”, as well as household waste such as carpets and even a paddling pool found near Barrow Upon Trent.

The incidents are not thought to be connected and are not believed to have been carried out by the same people.

Police say they are looking into the dumping of the dead cockerels, which were found near a field in Bakeacre Lane.

Anyone who has any information about the cockerels being discarded is asked to call 101, quoting incident 489 of August 15.

Mercia Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), which is part of Derbyshire police, says while it is investigating the dumping of the animal carcasses, it is also looking to find those responsible for other incidents of this type.

A spokesperson said: “To the selfish persons who decided to host an impromptu party near Canterbury Drive in Littleover, before discarding a range of unpalatable after-dark products, including gas canisters, beer bottles, wet wipes and even a partially used toilet roll – what were you thinking?

“Officers attended and were horrified to find clumps of soiled and slippery wet-wipes and strands of used toilet roll in hedges and on pavement and road areas. Clearly this thicket of idiots could not contain their urges to host a roadside party, before discarding used personal items.

“With children playing in close proximity to this location in the school holidays, this is a prime example of thoughtless and twisted antisocial conduct. Dumping these materials present a danger to humans, as well as to dogs and other family pets that live in the local area.

“The repulsive find has now been reported to South Derbyshire District Council.”

They were also looking to find the people responsible for a fly-tip overnight in Moor Lane, near Barrow Upon Trent.

They said: “With no thought for public health, these unsocial people certainly left their mark at the location.

“Piles of builders’ waste, construction materials and other household items were dumped.

“Arriving at the location to discover the rubbish, it was impossible for officers not to observe a rot of garbage strewn at the location.

“Resembling the backyard of Steptoe and Son, this peaceful location had been covered in a bizarre range of household items, including children’s toys, carpets, a paddling pool, television equipment, a car exhaust and partially-eaten food waste.

“Please remember that fly-tipping is illegally dumped rubbish. The flytipping of controlled waste is also a serious criminal offence and carries fines.”
