Overnight roadworks to start on busy route

TWO weeks of overnight roadworks are set to get under way on a busy Derby route on Wednesday.

CityFibre roadworks will be taking place along part of London Road, near the roundabout where motorists can access Ascot Drive, as part of the full fibre network roll-out across the city.

The work will see temporary traffic lights set up not far from the Derby Conference Centre.

Work will be carried out at night and is expected to be completed by Monday, September 13.

A spokespers­on for CityFibre said: “CityFibre is working closely with Derby City Council - road crossings will be near the roundabout and work is to be carried out at night as required by the local authority.”

Other routes also due to undergo roadworks this week incluide:

Lawn Heads Avenue, Littleover: An emergency road closure will be put in place tomorrow, to allow carriagewa­y resurfacin­g. Work will be carried out by Derby City Council from the junction with Crich Circle to its junction with Burton Road. A diversion will be in place.

Co-operative Street, Normanton: Severn Trent Water drainage works will be taking place near the junction with Howard Street. Work is expected to start tomorrow and be completed by Monday, September 13. A temporary closure will be in place during stages of the work, with a diversion route in place.

Curzon Road, Chaddesden: Four days of roadworks will be taking place from tomorrow until Friday. A road closure will be in force between 8am and 3pm each day to allow road surface repairs to be carried out by Derby City Council. Residents and visitors must find alternativ­e parking.

Pentagon Island: A major roadworks project, expected to take 20 weeks, got under way at Derby’s Pentagon Island last Wednesday. The traffic lights will be replaced over the course of the next few months, with the aim to have work finished before Christmas. The work, which will also see all the pedestrian and cyclist crossing points replaced, will be completed by Derby City Council’s own in-house team with an expected cost of £550k.

Crayford Road, Alvaston: Derby City Council is resurfacin­g a stretch of Crayford Road, between its junctions with Holbrook Road and Field Lane. Three weeks of roadworks, which got under way last week, are expected to be completed by Friday, September 10.
