A DERBY restaurant has been recognised for its “joie de vivre” and exceptionally good food and service.

French restaurant Bistrot Pierre, in Friar Gate, has earned enough positive reviews over the last 12 months to be honoured in the 2021 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards – ranking with the top ten per cent of hospitality businesses worldwide.

The Derby restaurant is one of 14 within the independent restaurant group that has won the award, out of a total of 19 branches across the UK.

It has recently launched a new menu featuring seasonal favourites such as goat’s cheese salad, salmon niçoise, and strawberry pavlova.

Nick White, chief exec of Bistrot Pierre, said: “After the difficult time the whole hospitality industry has experienced, it’s incredibly rewarding for so many of our Bistrot Pierre restaurants to have been recognised in the 2021 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards – including the Derby restaurant.

“Despite many challenges, we’ve kept the Bistrot family together and we’re very lucky to have such a wonderful team that pride themselves on consistently delivering a fantastic service to our customers and continuously going above and beyond.

“All of us at Bistrot Pierre are very proud of this achievement, especially as these awards are based on reviews from our customers, and I’d like to extend my thanks to all those who work at Bistrot Pierre, plus an extra thank you to our Derby restaurant.”

The restaurant’s menu features traditional French dishes of boeuf bourguignon and Barbary duck and more contemporary takes of Thai chicken salad and cauliflower and chickpea curry.

Breakfasts, afternoon tea and Sunday roasts are also served and during lockdown chefs created “at home” delivery boxes of favourite starters, mains and desserts, which are continuing.

In one of the rave reviews the diner said: “Wow 10/10. Over 30 of us came here for my mother’s birthday, and I must say Anna, Jo, and the team did a phenomenal job. Nothing was too much trouble.

“Everything was cooked to perfection. All the staff were very polite and friendly. “I would definitely recommend.” Another reviewer commented: “We were the group of nine on Monday and had a great time.

“Our waitress was phenomenal and deserves all the praise for putting up with us. Food was excellent, fairly priced and quick.

“The atmosphere was lovely as well. Would 100% recommend for family, friends and groups. Hope to come back soon.”

Kanika Soni, chief commercial officer at TripAdvisor, said: “I know the past year has been extremely challenging for tourism businesses.

“What has impressed me is how businesses adapted to these challenges, implementing new cleanliness measures, adding social distancing guidelines, and utilising technology to prioritise guest safety.

“The Travellers’ Choice Awards highlight the places that are consistently excellent – delivering quality experiences time and time again even while navigating changing customer expectations and new ways of working.

“Based on a full year of reviews from customers, this award speaks to the great service and experience you provided guests in the midst of a pandemic.”
