Mayfield win after six goals in first half

MAYFIELD opened their Mel Williams Premier Division campaign with a 4-2 victory away against Tibshelf, with all six goals coming in an actionpacked first half.

A Conor Mason penalty after only three minutes put the visitors ahead but seven minutes later a thunderous 20-yard strike from Jordan Macaskill drew the Oilers level.

The goals continued to flow and with a quarter-of-an-hour gone Mayfield were back in front thanks to a close-range finish from Sam Howard.

Tibshelf fought back once more, with Steve Webster heading home to restore parity in the 18th minute.

Nine minutes later Mayfield were back in front for a third time when Zack Yates headed in from a corner before Sam Handley finished off a freeflowing move on the stroke of half-time to give the visitors a two-goal cushion.

No further goals were to follow after a dramatic first 45 minutes, with Mayfield holding out for the win.

There was an eight-goal thriller at The Pavilion where Allenton United drew 4-4 with early leaders FC Sunnyhill.

Kay Anderson (3) and substitute Martin Dugbo were on target for Sunnyhill.

Kasey Phelan struck twice as Sleetmoor United edged out Ashbourne Reserves 2-1, and that was also the scoreline at St Peters Park where Cromford & Wirksworth Town Reserves got the better of hosts Little Eaton.

Aston Village moved to the top of the fledgling Drayton PACS Division One table with an emphatic 5-0 win away against Wirksworth Ivanhoe Reserves, courtesy of goals from Matt Roberts (2), Ashley Hargreaves, Niall Worrall and Kevin Flint.

Newhall United are up and running after they secured a 3-1 victory over visiting Little Eaton Reserves.

Jordan Lees struck after only two minutes to give Newhall the lead and 10 minutes later it was 2-0 when Nathan Bowen found the back of the net. Ben Pick pulled one back for Little Eaton in the 57th minute but the hosts restored their two-goal cushion with 20 minutes to play thanks to Adam Palmer’s fine free-kick.
