Teen warehouse worker sold ecstasy after falling in with bad crowd

-

A TEENAGE drug dealer who was “sold the dream” by older peers has escaped immediate custody due to his age.

Derby Crown Court heard how Kyle Scott was just 16 years old when police raided his Derbyshire home.

In his bedroom they found 99 ecstasy tables and a crystalline substance that was also MDMA.

Handing him an 18-month custodial sentence in a young offender institute, suspended for two years, Judge Nirmal Shant QC said: “You were 16 at the time and you are now 18 and therefore I am obliged to give you an allowance because you were such a young man at that time.”

Richard Gibbs, prosecuting, said police went to Scott’s then address in Shirebrook on July 25, 2019.

He said they executed a warrant as they had information drugs would be found at the property.

Mr Gibbs said: “They were let in by the defendant’s brother and from the defendant’s bedroom a number of items were seized which were in a chest of drawers.

“There was a cannabis grinder and cannabis in a tub as well as drugs paraphernalia.

“A crystalline substance was found along with ecstasy tablets.

“There were 99 tablets in total, 50 in one bag and 49 in another with a total value of between £200 and £500.

“The crystalline substance was tested and found to be MDMA.”

Mr Gibbs said a mobile phone was interrogated and in the notes section was found a “tick list” of customers.

He said after being arrested Scott, who is now 18, answered “no comment” to the questions he was asked.

The defendant, now of Vale Drive, Shirebrook, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and possession of cannabis.

In mitigation, his barrister said her client has stopped offending and is now working in a warehouse for a flooring company.

She said: “At the time he was, to use the phrase ‘sold the dream’ by older peers.”
