Alrewas jubilant after Will’s seven

ALREWAS are celebratin­g promotion to the Premier Division as a win against Sawley clinched the runners-up spot in Greenhouse Café Division One.

Will Smedley (7-21) instigated a Sawley collapse from 87-2 to 137 all out and though James Burton fell with only two runs on the board, Gareth Woolley (37) set the tone before Stephen Cole (22 not out) and Josh Jones (21 not out) polished off a six-wicket triumph.

Rolleston did all they could do to overhaul Alrewas. They took an eight-wicket win over Wirksworth & Middleton, who were bowled out for 158 with Graham Dent (2-31), Alex Brown (2-25) and Tom Liversage (4-26) taking wickets.

Louis Burrows then hit an unbeaten 100, including 12 fours, as Liversage completed a fine allround performanc­e with 37 not out.

Champions Alfreton finished with an eight-wicket win over Ilkeston Rutland led by Muhammad Zaroob’s 92 not out, including five sixes and eight fours. They needed only 121 for the win after Matt New took 5-28,

Rafay Ahmed (30) and Ali Amin (32 not out) top-scoring for Ilkeston.

Clifton’s defeat to Cutthorpe saw them relegated. Harry Moore (3-51) and Kian Walwyn (4-34) reduced Cutthorpe to 59-8 but Hashen Ramanayake (122) struck six sixes and nine fours in adding 139 for the ninth wicket with David Bush (27) to take the tally to 210-9.

Clifton were bowled out for 165 in reply, despite Aqib Afzaal (42) and Bilal Hussain (43). Andrew Knowles (5-60) won the day for Cutthorpe.

Dunstall fell to defeat against Duffield but Clifton’s loss saw both clubs survive. Joe Wozniczka-Wells took 7-20 for Duffield, with Jamie Benstead 67 not out from 106 all out, then an unbeaten 49 from Rob Heath saw Duffield home.

Lullington Park go down with Clifton after they were beaten by seven wickets by Morton Colliery.

Park hit 274-4 led by Paul Dawson (88), Brendon Louw (98 not out) and and Sam Eaton (39 not out) and that might have been enough but Alex Eyre’s unbeaten 146 denied them the win they needed.
