Three more Covid deaths in the county

THREE more people with Covid-19 have died in Derbyshire – while a further 463 cases have been confirmed across the area in a day.

The latest official figures published yesterday show that the deaths – all within 28 days of a positive test for the virus – were reported in Erewash (two) and North East Derbyshire.

Meanwhile of the new cases confirmed, 109 were in Derby and 354 in the wider Derbyshire area.

There have now been a total of 112,849 coronaviru­s cases across the region since the pandemic was officially declared last year.

The largest increase outside of Derby was in Amber Valley, with 71 while Bolsover saw the smallest rise of 26.

A further 185 people had died across the UK within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of yesterday, bringing the total to 134,446.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 159,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificat­e.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 26,628 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK.

Government data up to September 13 shows that of the 92,567,446 Covid jabs given in the UK, 48,458,700 were first doses, a rise of 19,428 on the previous day.

Some 44,108,746 were second doses, an increase of 60,653.
