Pyclet Parlour is back in the city with its choice of favourite treats

DERBY’S Pyclet Parlour returned to the city centre after 18 months away when a new café opened in the Cathedral Quarter at the weekend.

Owner Katie Gibson welcomed her first customers to her new Sadler Gate outlet, which was formerly the Padley Centre charity shop, on Saturday, September 11.

Those visiting the new café will be able to sample pyclets, a type of flattened crumpet that the business specialises in serving for breakfast and lunch.

Spanning three floors, the main café and shop area is located on the ground floor, a production kitchen area on the first floor, with two private dining rooms available to book on the second floor.

Katie, who took over the business in September 2016, said: “Our opening day was great, it was lovely to see so many faces, familiar and new. It was lovely to see our private dining rooms full after weeks of hard work getting them ready.

“It feels great to be back in Derby and open again after a year-and-a-half of cooking behind closed doors and being on outdoor markets.” The Pyclet Parlour previously operated from the Market Hall from 2012 until 2016, before moving to an Eagle Market stall which shut down just before the Covid pandemic last March.

Speaking about some of the other dishes available to try on the menu as well as the pyclets, which is a treat that dates back more than 150 years, Katie said: “All the classics are still there. We’ve always been big on breakfast and one of our most popular items throughout the whole day is the eggs benedict, and then the breakfast oatcakes.

“Then from our lunch menu, our Welsh rarebit and posh pyclets have always been favourites.”

Our opening day was great, it was lovely to see so many faces, familiar and new.
