Town set to sparkle for night walk, but volunteers needed to help out
THE streets of Chesterfield are going to be turned pink tomorrow as thousands of people take part in Ashgate Hospicecare’s Sparkle Night Walk.
The event, which this year is attracting more than 1,600 people, returns after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic.
However, with just a day before the event starts outside the Technique Stadium, home of
Chesterfield Football Club, Ashgate Hospicecare urgently seeking volunteers to ensure it is as safe as possible. From helping in the car park to being a marshall, making hot drinks and more, the North Derbyshire charity says it needs 150 volunteers to help out on the night.
Starting at 9.30pm, participants will walk 10 kilometres around Chesterfield, down the A61 bypass, past the iconic Crooked Spire, and through the streets of the town, starting and ending at the Technique Stadium.
There will be staggered start times from the stadium and a one-way system in place along with marshalls on hand the ensure everyone remains safe and the event runs smoothly in a socially distanced manner.
Carl Jones, Ashgate’s fundraising manager, added: “The countdown to
Sparkle is nearly over and we can’t wait to welcome more than 1,600 supporters to Chesterfield for the town’s biggest and most exciting night of the year.
“If you haven’t signed up yet, and are free on the night of Saturday, September 25, perhaps you’d consider coming and volunteering?
“Volunteering at our events is a fun way to support us. You get to spend the evening with some great people, as well as chat with our wonderful supporters too.
“We’d really appreciate anyone who could give up a few hours of their time, so please get in touch if you’re able to help.”
