Knife Angel set to return

-

THE iconic Knife Angel is set to be returning to Derbyshire as it continues to tour the country.

In October 2019, the impressive 27ft sculpture, made with 100,000 bladed weapons, was placed outside Derby Cathedral, standing as a symbol against knife crime and a memorial for lives lost to acts of violence.

More than 90,000 people went out to see the work of art during its time in Irongate.

Now the artefact is set to pay a visit to Chesterfield.

A tweet from the British Ironwork Centre, which created the sculpture, reads: “The Knife Angel remains in Chelmsford Central Park for just a few more days before its move to Chesterfield in Derbyshire.

“It’s important that its anti violence reaches the younger generation.”

According to the British Ironwork Centre website, the

Angel will be in Derbyshire during October, before moving on to Blackburn Cathedral, in November.

Unveiled in 2017, the sculpture has travelled across the country educating people about the effects of knife crimes.

As well as standing as a memorial, it also to highlights the need for social change to turn the tide on violent and aggressive behaviour.

It was created by the British Ironwork Centre in Shropshire by artist Alfie Bradley and involved all 43 police forces, the Home Office, anti-violence groups and lots of families affected by knife crime.

Otherwise known as the National Monument Against Violence and Aggression, the Knife Angel includes blades handed in at 200 knife banks the Ironwork centre set up across the country.
