New salon for barber popular with Rams stars
A BARBER popular with Derby County and international footballers has expanded to open a new barbershop in the city.
Richard Byrne had been operating Egos, in Normanton Road, for 15 years, but has now relocated to a bigger premises in Osmaston Road, in the city centre.
Over the last decade or so, Mr Byrne has worked with dozens of Rams players past and present, including Will Hughes, Tom Huddlestone, Chris Martin, Lee Buchanan, and current captain Tom Lawrence.
Former loanees Harry Wilson and Mason Mount also became clients during their time at Pride Park.
Mr Byrne now regularly travels to cut Chelsea and England star Mount’s hair, and sometimes also gives him a trim when he is in the Midlands area for an away match.
Talking about his move to Osmaston Road and his celebrity links, Mr Byrne said: “We have been open 15 years now
and felt it was just time to move as we out grew that shop. Normanton Road was of a more vintage style whereas the new shop has a modern feel.
“I have been cutting the Derby players for about 12 years now and quite a few other footballers, probably too many to name.
“Mason has become a good friend now who I drive to Surrey to cut. Or if he’s local I will trim where he needs me.
“I have also done a lot of TV work, recently working on a new American HBO dating show, and I’m in London on Friday working on a new show for the BBC.
“I have worked on shows such as The Voice, The Greatest Dancer with Cheryl Cole, and with Derby’s very own Love Island contestant Brett.”
Other footballers Mr Byrne has worked with include West Ham forward Michail Antonio, Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles and former Rams manager Phillip Cocu.
Prices for a cut at Egos start at £10 for a shape up, a children’s cut for £15, and a men’s haircut with beard shape for £20.
