Margetts birthday treble fires Nailers

- NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL

JONNY Margetts fired a birthday hat-trick to take him to 12 goals for the season as Belper Town beat Sporting Khalsa 3-0 in midweek in the Pitching In NPL Midland Division.

Margetts struck first after six minutes, running on to Prince Mancinelli’s pass, then scored two in three minutes midway through the second half.

Alex Peterson’s lobbed pass picked him out for the first, tucked away at the second attempt after the first was saved, then he shot on the spin from Tom Wilson’s right-wing cross to make the points safe.

Belper are away to Soham Town Rangers today.

JAMIE Cooke’s goal after five minutes was enough to keep Matlock Town marching on in second place in the Premier Division, when they were away to Radcliffe in midweek.

Cooke raced on to a through ball from Alex Byrne to slot his third goal in two games since arriving on loan from Halifax Town.

Both Cooke and Byrne later had to go off with knocks, though and Matlock had already lost Callum Chippendale to a groin strain early in the game.

Manager Paul Phillips has moved to fill a gap by adding Tamworth midfielder Aram Soleman on loan.

The Gladiators could be looking at a four-figure crowd at Causeway Lane today when wellbacked FC United of Manchester are the visitors.

MICKLEOVER fell to a third successive defeat when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Bamber Bridge in midweek.

They face another tricky away game tomorrow with the long trip to play Scarborough Athletic.

ALFRETON Town, without a game today, have made two new midfield signings, Bermuda international Milan Butterfield and Mohammad Sebbeh Njie. Butterfield began his career with Walsall and later made more than 50 appearances for Kidderminster Harriers in Vanarama National League North.

He was most recently with Chesterfield before being released at the end of last season. He was most recently on loan with Guiseley.

Njie is a Spaniard of Gambian descent who was most recently with NPL club Stafford Rangers. He has also played for Stratford Town, Redditch United and Kettering Town.

ILKESTON Town, who won 2-1 away to Sutton Coldfield Town last week, will aim to boost their home form in the NPL Midland Division when bottom club Histon visit today.
