Job cuts made it the toughest week for Liam

-

DERBY County assistant manager Liam Rosenior has said the club feel a “real sense of responsibility” to staff who have been made redundant this week.

As a result of the Rams going into administration, it was confirmed this week that around 20 non-playing staff had lost their jobs.

Joint administrators Andrew Hosking, Carl Jackson and Andrew Andronikou from business advisory firm Quantuma have been responsible for getting to grips with the affairs at Pride Park and that has led to “efficiencies”.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of today’s match in the Championship against Swansea City, Rosenior said it had been the hardest week of his life in football.

“I would be lying if I said this isn’t the hardest week of my life in terms of my football career, by far,” he began.

“You grow an affinity, you care about people, you work with them every single day, you get to know not just them, their family members, things that are happening in their lives and, all of a sudden, things that are out of your control, they’re out of a job.

“For me, personally, the only way I’ve been able to keep going is to concentrate on representing those people the best way I possibly can.

“I think as a group of people, even people I’m in the room with now, who’re working for Rams TV, everyone’s come together because we know we’re working towards something bigger, which is the pride of the

city, the pride of every single person that’s represented this club for so long.

“I’ve spoken to scouts, I’ve spoken to people who’ve worked here for over 30 years who’ve lost their job this week.”

Rosenior added that the redundancies also struck close to home for the players.

“We’ve lost a key member of staff, in terms of our first team group, Shane Nicholson, our fitness coach,” he said.

“He was someone who was really well liked by the players, someone who was very, very good at his job and when we found out on Tuesday morning, just before training to prepare for the game on Wednesday night.

“So you can imagine the mood in the group, when someone you care about loses their job there and then and you have to go out and train and focus on a really, really good Reading side.

“I cannot give enough credit to the players.”
