Anger at bookmaker over dispute about Raducanu wager

A DERBY man was left furious by a dispute with a bookmaker he claimed owed him hundreds of pounds after he bet on tennis ace Emma Raducanu to win the US Open.

Carl Wright, from Oakwood, said he placed a £50 double bet on the British tennis star at the St John’s Wood branch of Betfred on Wednesday, September 8.

He bet Randucanu would win against Swiss tennis player Belinda Bencic at odds of 6/5 and that she would go on to win the competitio­n at odds of 15/2.

Mr Wright was told by the London bookmaker that his potential winnings would be £935.

The 18-year-old Rancandu won the match against Bencic, the reigning Olympic champion, 6-3, 6-4 and later went on win the final to become one of the youngest US Open winners in history.

However, when Mr Wright went into the Oakwood branch of Betfred to pick up his winnings he claims he was told that they “would only pay it as two single bets”.
