Cabins plan for happy glamping

HOLIDAY SITE BID NEAR DERBYSHIRE TOWN

A NUMBER of glamping cabins could be built in the countryside close to a Derbyshire town.

Chevin Group Holdings Limited, based in Derby, has submitted plans for five glamping cabins at Chevin Green Farm off Chevin Road, just west of Belper.

If approved, the glamping units would join commercial offices and a former bed and breakfast business also on the farm site, along with a number of houses.

Amber Valley Borough Council will make a decision on the plans in the next few months.

Papers submitted by the applicant say the site in question has previously been an orchard and a caravan site.

Chevin Homes says all five of the timber cabins would accommodate two people, with two larger units and three smaller ones.

The larger units would have a bathroom, separate double bedroom with an open plan kitchen, dining and living room area.

The smaller units would have a bathroom and an open plan kitchen, dining, living and bedroom area.

The applicant writes: “Chevin Group Holdings have considered how to provide tourist accommodation in the area with the associated economic benefits to the local area and whilst opening a caravan site under the Caravanning Club exemption rules does not require planning permission, it is felt that a higher quality stay through diversified forms of accommodation, eg. glamping, will provide greater benefits to Belper and its environs.”

It says: “The Peak District and the Derwent Valley is experiencing an increasing level of visitors and there is a high demand for tourist accommodation which results in a further demand for sites close to or within visiting distance of local attractions.

“The addition of extra holiday accommodation in the area will take the pressure away from town centre properties that are increasingly being turned into holiday lets.

“The proposal represents a rural tourist development that is well connected and sustainable and would have positive benefits to the economy of the area.”

It says the site has the “potential to be prominent”, the gradient of the land around them and the surrounding agricultural buildings should help to obscure them.

The application says five parking spaces would be provided.

The extra holiday accommodation will take pressure away from town centre properties being turned into holiday lets.
