Three more county Covid deaths and new cases soar to more than 900

THREE new Covid-related hospital deaths have been recorded in Derbyshire, according to the latest official data.

The deaths were at Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

The latest official figures published yesterday evening showed a total of 910 positive tests – including 171 in Derby.

Of the new cases reported, Amber Valley saw the biggest increase outside of Derby, with 155 more cases. The Derbyshire Dales saw the smallest rise, with 57 new cases.

In total, 127,195 coronavirus cases have been detected in Derby and across wider Derbyshire since the beginning of the pandemic.

Nationally, the Government said a further 143 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of yesterday, bringing the UK total to 137,295.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 161,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am yesterday, there had been a further 39,851 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK.

Government data up to October 5 shows that of the 94,085,830 Covid jabs given in the UK, 49,035,877 were first doses, a rise of 41,347 on the previous day.

Some 45,049,953 were second doses, a rise of 28,572.
