PLANS have been unveiled to transform a former social club on a wellknown Derby street into 32 new luxury apartments – affordable for first time buyers.

New images have been revealed on Derby City Council’s planning portal showing a major regeneration project on part of Osmaston Road, near to the city centre.

The development site is at the former Derby Engineers Family Club.

Applicant Derby and Co Developments has now submitted plans to partly demolish, renovate and expand the building into eight new apartments.

In addition, there are also plans to build three new three-storey apartment blocks behind the main building, comprising eight apartments each. This would make for 32 new apartments in total.

The apartments will have one or two bedrooms, should plans get the go-ahead.

According to planning documents the project title has been given the name “Eden Living Ltd”. Artist impression images have come from

AK Innovative Design Solutions Ltd - the applicant’s agent.

A design and access statement reveals the luxury apartments will be ideal for individuals, families and couples looking to get on the property ladder.

It says: “These apartments will be luxury apartments for family, couples and each building will have affordable apartments for first time buyers.

“Balconies have been proposed for each compartment, with glass railings to bring out the best of designs.

“Courtyard parking would be provided for all dwellings, with a minimum of one space per apartment.”

The statement then concludes: “The proposed development will make efficient use of the vacant and under-used previously developed site.

“The site is in a highly sustainable and accessible location, where development will make use of existing infrastructure. Non-car modes of transport are available.”

The plans come six months after firefighters were called to a blaze at the building.

The fire, which started in the early hours of the morning of Tuesday April 6, was so severe that it damaged two rooms.

It is hoped a decision on the plans could be made by the Derby City Council early next year.
