CLUSTERS of Covid infections have been found in parts of Derbyshire but case numbers continue to drop.

Hotspots for the disease have been found in areas across the county after the latest Government figures were released.

Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire have the highest rates of infections, with six of the eight most heavilyinfected areas lying in this part of the county.

Old Whittington in Chesterfield had the highest rate in the county, with 783.1 infections per 100,000 people in the week leading up to November 6.

Meanwhile, Grassmoor and Holmewood in North East Derbyshire, had the highest number of actual new infections, with 76 cases in the same time frame.

Other hotspots include Buxton South and East in High Peak, Allestree North in Derby, and Hathersage, Bradwell and Tideswell in Derbyshire Dales.

Despite this, cases across Derby and Derbyshire are largely continuing to fall.

The entire city of Derby saw 795 cases in the week up to November 6, a decrease of more than 11 per cent.

Meanwhile, the wider county saw 3,208 cases, a drop of more than 17 per cent on the week before.

Case numbers are also continuing to fall on a national level, with 33,000 fewer positive test results in the week leading up to November 11, than in the week before.

However, nearly a quarter of a million people still tested positive, with a national infection rate of 356.1 per 100,000 people.

The number of patients admitted to hospital and dying with the disease has also continued to fall.

In the seven days up to November 7, more than 6,500 people were hospitalised with the virus, with 1,138 people in the last week dying within 28 days of a positive test.
