A MEMORIAL service is set to take place to celebrate the life of a Derbyshire teenager who died in a car crash.

Phoebe Johnson, from Outram Close, Swadlincote, died after being involved in a crash on a road between Ticknall and Melbourne in the early hours of October 23 this year.

Since then a fund to raise money in memory of the 17-year-old has topped more than £4,000.

Phoebe Johnson was ten days away from turning 18 when the car she was a passenger in crashed.

Following her death, her parents Nicky and Paul released a heartfelt tribute to their daughter.

This was echoed by Burton and South Derbyshire College, where Phoebe was a student, and family and friends on social media.

She was described as having a smile which would “light up any room” and having a knack of making anyone smile.

A service to celebrate Phoebe’s life will be held at 3pm on Friday, November 19, at Bretby Crematorium’s Carnarvon Chapel. Those who would like to attend are more than welcome, the family has said.

Family flowers only and donations in Phoebe’s memory can be made online at gofund.me/a19abf34, given at the funeral or sent c/o Murray’s Funeral Directors, 1 Boardman Road, Swadlincote, DE11 9DL. Tel. 01283 819933.

Phoebe’s favourite colours are blue

and purple, the funeral notice added.

Phoebe was a passenger in a red Seat Leon which left the A514 heading south, past the junction with Breach Lane between Ticknall and Melbourne in the early hours of Saturday, October 23.

Another 17-year-old passenger was taken to hospital following the incident with injuries that are not believed to be serious.

A 19-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

An inquest into her death was opened at Derby Coroners’ Court.

The hearing was attended by Phoebe’s parents and other relatives.
