Lack of profit forces closure of Derbyshire care home
A DERBYSHIRE care home has closed for good and the building put up for sale because it failed to make enough money, the Derby Telegraph understands.
Kidsley Grange Nursing Home, in Heanor Road, Heanor, shut earlier this year and has been empty since then.
For sale signs have been out up outside the property, which is being marketed by Derby-based commercial property agent BB&J.
Ashmere, which ran the home, has confirmed the home will not be reopening.
The care home, which had been rated good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) its last inspection by the watchdog, had 21 beds. Staff cared for older people and younger adults, as well as those with dementia or physical disabilities.
It is understood the reason for the closure is that it was no longer financially viable as a care home.
A spokesperson for Ashmere said “We closed in June after a long consultation with residents, their families and the staff.
“It was a small, 21-bed home that had been impacted by Covid – most of the residents and staff stayed within the Ashmere group of homes.” According to an online listing with estate agent BB&J, the freehold for the property has now been put on the market for offers in the region of £500,000. It says the site represents a “unique redevelopment opportunity” with significant prospects to convert the property, subject to planning, or retain and refurbish the existing building.
It states: “The two-storey building has 19 bedrooms, 12 of which are ensuite and seven non-en-suite.
“It also has two open-plan lounges, two day rooms, a conservatory, fitted commercial kitchen with walk in freezer store and staff offices. “Given its former use the property has dedicated rooms allocated for hairdressing, laundry, patient treatment, sluice room and three storerooms. “The building is on a triangular plot with direct access coming off Adale Road. The site extends to approximately 0.4 acres. “There is parking with allocated spaces for eight vehicles and gardens wrapping round the rest of the property.
“The gardens to the Heanor Road side of the property are surrounded by high wooden fencing which offers excellent privacy.”
