Shops and flats plan for row of empty units
A ROW of empty shops in a Derbyshire town centre is set to get a makeover.
OHC Property Group wants to renovate units 10b to 14 Bath Street in Ilkeston.
The developer says it has been given planning permission by Erewash Borough Council to turn them into a combination of retail units and apartments.
Construction work, which is set to begin and finish in 2022, will see the ground floor turned into two retail units which will be available for lease.
Meanwhile, the upper floors will be renovated into a mixture of 12 one- and two-bedroom apartments.
The development will be named Victoria House, something the developer says is a way of paying tribute to the original Victorian design of the building.
James Brecknock, director of OHC Property Group, said he thought the plans would be in keeping with the regeneration of the town centre.
“Ilkeston has plans for vast regeneration and is forecasted for major growth over the years to come,” he said.
“The town itself is charming, historic and thriving. We are delighted to have received planning permission to convert the historic 19th-century building into a mixed-use development.
“Both the apartment and retail units will provide a high-specification and tailored finish. Victoria House will be the first development in Ilkeston that will use solar power and we want our residents to enjoy the long-term benefits this power source brings.
“We’re going to deliver a premium specification and design to Bath Street and the team is looking forward to getting started with construction.
“We’ve recently launched the retail units to let, and we would like to agree long term tenancies with budding retailers in both units.
“Ilkeston town centre is certainly experiencing a resurgence of former glories. We look forward to contributing to the town’s growth.”
