Debut day for couple’s vintage shop

-

A NEW antiques and vintage goods shop will open in a Derbyshire town this weekend.

Noble Robin Salvages, in Alexandra Road, Swadlincote, will stock goods including furniture, garden products and other quirky items that cannot be found on the high street. Couple Holly Wright and Joe Wilkinson say they are using knowledge passed down from their grandparents to go it alone.

Customers will be able to visit the store for the first time today, and, as an added bonus, they will be greeted by 22-week-old Jack Russell puppy Mabel. Holly, 27, said: “We pride ourselves with knowledge and passion that was handed down throughout generations to sourcing and providing collective and unique finds from salvaging adventures.

“Our story behind our unique name is a very personal one to us. We are who we are today because of our grandfathers – Graham Fry and Alan Wilkinson. These two wellrespected grandparents passed down their knowledge and wisdom giving us the drive we have today.

“Our logo represents a Loyal Robin with a flat cap and shepherd’s crook which we have incorporated to keep their characteristics in memory. Noble Robin Salvages wants to rescue, preserve and reuse items that fulfil wants and desires.”

The couple, from Hartshorne, pick up the unique stock from auctions, antique fairs, house clearances and other traders in the business that they know around the country.

Advertising signs are particularly popular at the minute, with the shop also stocking items from Bretby and TG Greens pottery, furniture for the home and items for the garden such as homemade lamps.

Holly said: “Plenty of people have been walking past and saying they can’t wait for us to open and we’ve had a few people interested in certain bits and asked if they can buy them already but we want to give everyone a fair chance.

“Mabel has already got quite a following and has become a bit of a celebrity. She’s very good with people and loves fuss and attention. She’s also good with other dogs as we are an animal friendly store.”

Joe, 33, added: “Everyone is welcome in the store and we are very welcoming. We would urge people to support local and we are supporting the other shops in the high street as well.”

Noble Robin Salvages will be open from 10am to 8pm today for its grand opening and then on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 5pm after that and 10am to 2pm on Sundays.
