Fresh plans submitted for former Farmfoods store

THEY ALSO COVER THE TWO UNITS EITHER SIDE

NEW plans have been submitted to replace a former Farmfoods supermarket in Derby city centre.

The Farmfoods branch in Albert Street closed on Sunday, September 19, after staff claimed that they were told the landlord wished to sell the premises.

But a planning application has since been submitted to Derby City Council, with Nottingham-based development company Bridgebank Properties Ltd looking to create three shops.

This includes the two adjacent units, 21 and 25 Albert Street, with the plans detailing how the 179 square metres of retail space would be split into three small stores with new shop fronts.

A letter to the council which accompanied the application from Bridgebank Properties Ltd reads: “Following our various emails we have accepted your recommendation that we should lodge a planning application though the planning portal to sub-divide Unit 23 (formerly Farmfoods) into three smaller shops.

“The application with detailed plans etc are therefore enclosed which hopefully can be granted planning consent under delegated powers before 20th December and we can undertake the refurbishment works and install the new shopfronts as soon as possible so we can find new retailers in January 2022.”

Derby City Council’s planning control committee is set to meet on December 16, with the application not discussed at its last meeting on November 18.

The old Farmfood store’s closure came as a shock to staff, one member said when they spoke to the Derby Telegraph at the time.

They were told about a week before its closure and were all relocated to Derby’s two other branches at Park Farm in Allestree and Ascot Drive in Allenton.

A spokesperson said at the time: “The decision to close the shop was a commercial one but we are very grateful to all of our customers who have been shopping with us since the shop opened and we do still value their custom.”

The Derby Telegraph has approached Bridgebank Properties Ltd for more details about the proposals being put forward, and is awaiting a response.
