FOUR weeks of major roadworks will see road closures put in place along a busy Derby suburb route from early next week.

Derby City Council will be resurfacing the whole of Oaklands Avenue, Littleover, between its junctions with Blagreaves Lane and Stenson Road, from Monday.

The work will be carried out between 8am and 6pm on weekdays until Wednesday, December 22 when workers will take a two-week break for Christmas and New Year.

They will then return for three days from January 4, to finish the job, with work expected to be completed by January 6.

The project will be completed in phases, with road closures put in force along two different stretches.

Phase one will be from the road’s junction with Blagreaves Lane to its junction with Blagreaves Avenue. The second phase will take place from the road’s junction with Blagreaves Avenue to its junction with Stenson Road.

A diversion route will be in place for affected motorists via Oaklands Avenue, Blagreaves Lane, and Stenson Road, and the same in the opposite direction.

In a letter sent to affected residents, the city council shared more details about the work set to be undertaken by Thomas Bow Ltd, on behalf of the local authority.

Part of the letter says: “We appreciate this work is disruptive and essential journeys could be delayed. Our main aim is to get the work completed as quickly and safely as possible.

“We will do our best to make sure all properties affected by the work can be accessed with minimum disruption. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

“We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding and hope that you agree this improvement work is long overdue and is very much needed for businesses, residents and the travelling public.”

Work is subject to good weather and no other urgent work taking priority. No weekend work is planned, but may be a possibility, subject to progress. The upcoming work in Oaklands Avenue forms part of a two-year city-wide resurfacing scheme.

Around 21 months into the city council’s highways project, work has so far been completed on a number of key routes, including Normanton Road, Ascot Drive, Spider Island, Osmaston Road, and London Road.

A major six-week project in Stenson Road is still a way off being completed with an estimated finish date of Friday, December 10.
