Housebuilders chip in for kits

-

A DERBYSHIRE football team has been given a £500 boost from two local housebuilders, providing them with new kits to start the season.

Bellway East Midlands and Ashberry Homes, which are both building in Wingerworth, joined forces to sponsor local football team, The Wingerworth JSA Under-7 Crocs.

The club, which is based at The Avenue, off Hornbeam Drive, has been around for more than 25 years and provides coaching for age groups from under-7s to under-15s.

Bellway East Midlands is building new homes at Curzon Park, off Derby Road in Wingerworth, while Ashberry Homes has a development at Mill Fields, off Mill Lane.

The sponsorship deal was arranged after an U7s team parent, Edward Lockett – who lives at Bellway’s completed Brailsford Park development in Wingerworth – contacted the housebuilders to ask for support.

Edward said: “We have lived on Bellway’s Brailsford Park development for almost five years now and my son is a part of the local football club. Wingerworth JSA aren’t a

registered charity and rely solely on generous donations to be able to continue, along with the help of parents and volunteers.

“I reached out to Bellway because I’m aware they like to support the local community in which they build their developments, especially as this team has multiple members who live on a Bellway or Ashberry site.

“This team in particular is fairly new and only started basic football training last year but will soon be playing proper matches. We have a mixed boys and girls team and all the kits have previously been passed down the generations from older club members.”

The team members were presented with the new kit at their awards evening.

Edward continued: “The coaches took the under-7s aside and presented them with their brand-new kits, and as you can imagine, they were over the moon! They were so excited, they put them straight on.

“The team have debuted their kits now the season has started and absolutely love them.”

Julie Wild, Sales Manager for Bellway East Midlands, said: “We always want to help the local community where we build as much as we can, and it’s great to see some of our residents are part of this wellestablished local club.”
