Late goals save point for Sports

TWO late goals salvaged a 2-2 draw on an emotional day for many at Mickleover FC.

Following the death of Keith Loring, a close advisor of chairman Don Amott, Sports were desperate for a positive result but trailed 2-0 with three minutes to go at home to Grantham Town in Pitching In NPL Premier Division.

Goals from Ben Radcliffe and George Milner saved a point.

Matlock Town wasted a chance to move two points clear at the top of the table as they went down to a third home league defeat on the bounce, 3-2 to Stafford Rangers.

Liam King and Alex Byrne twice put the Gladiators ahead, but Jake Charles scored his second from the penalty spot after 74 minutes to make it 3-2 and though Stafford had a man sent off, the home team could not find an equaliser.

Bailey Hobson put Alfreton Town ahead after only 15 seconds to set the Reds on their way to a 2-1 win away to Curzon Ashton in National League North.

Loan striker Antwoine Hackford, on his debut, then scored 50 seconds into the second half to make it 2-0 and though ex-Red Craig Hobson pulled a goal back, Alfreton took the points.

The win ended a three-game league losing streak for the Reds.

Ilkeston Town stay top of Pitching In NPL Midlands after a resounding 5-1 victory at home to Wisbech Town.

Zak Goodison scored twice, with

Adam Chapman, Jared Bird and Tommy Williams completing their tally to keep the Robins a point clear of Belper Town.

The Nailers stayed the pace following a 1-0 win away to Corby Town, Brodie Litchfield getting the only goal midway through the second half.

Gresley Rovers extended their unbeaten run in United Counties Premier Division North to 15 games with an emphatic 5-1 away victory against Leicester Nirvana.

They stay in second, eight points behind leaders Long Eaton United, who were 3-0 against Loughborou­gh Students.
