Top Derby restaurant moves into new home
AWARD-WINNING PALFREY RELOCATES TO A6
A MUCH-loved Derby restaurant has opened its doors again at a new home in Milford, on the A6 between Duffield and Belper.
The Palfrey welcomed customers back for the first time in months on Saturday, December 4, to enjoy their award-winning cuisine at the new establishment, on the site of the former New Inn, on Hopping Hill.
The restaurant, which was crowned Restaurant of the Year and Best Bar at the Derby Food and Drink Awards in 2019, was previously operating in Old Blacksmith’s Yard, off Sadler Gate, in the city centre.
However, its owners announced in the summer that they had made the decision to relocate outside the city.
The team hopes that their move will allow the business to “expand and flourish”. They have been carrying out significant renovations on the building over the past few months. Head chef Daniel Cain described Saturday’s opening as a soft launch.
The Milford premises were also formerly home to Angelo’s restaurant, which is now located in Duffield. Following the departure of Angelo’s, The New
Inn was relaunched by mum-and-son duo
Kyle and Marina Petts in April 2019, concentrating on classic English dishes.
The relocation is the latest twist in the tale of the Palfrey which, as well as picking up numerous awards, has also had its fair share of bad luck, having been struck by a catastrophic fire in October 2017.
Posting on its Facebook page, the restaurant said: “Sorry we’ve been so quiet on here lately but we have exciting news. We’re pleased to announce that we can finally reveal a date for our opening for Milford; Saturday, December 4 at 5.30pm.
“We look forward to seeing you all soon and celebrating the festivities with everyone.”
The Palfrey is currently taking bookings for the Christmas season, with a set menu for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Some of the mains on offer across the two days include slow-cooked turkey breast, Derbyshire 6oz beef fillet steak, roast halibut loin and parsnip and porcini and chestnut wellington. They will also shortly be releasing a New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day menu.
