Gift shop opens to welcome people... and canines
A NEW family-run gift shop is now open in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter, just in time for the busy Christmas shopping period.
Tubo, run by husband and wife team Danny and Kay Samson, welcomed its first customers to a unit in the Strand Arcade last week.
The dog-friendly store, which underwent a major refurbishment, stocks a range of eco-friendly homeware, cards and gifts.
Speaking about how the first day of trading went, Kay said: “We were so pleased to see many of our friends, family and other local small business owners popping in to say hello and show support at our festive opening event.
“Despite the rain and very cold weather, we had a steady trickle of customers and it was great to receive such lovely comments about our gift shop and the products we have.
“We’re looking forward to meeting many more new customers in the run-up to Christmas so make sure Tubo Gift Shop is on your Christmas shopping list.”
Danny and Kay previously ran a pop-up shop in their home village of Kegworth, but are delighted to have made the big move into permanently trading from Derby city centre.
Speaking when the opening was announced last month, Kay said: “An opportunity arose late in 2020 to open a pop-up shop in our local village. The shop was very wellreceived and inevitably gave us the confidence to begin our search for more permanent premises.
“When we viewed No. 1 The Strand Arcade earlier this year we just knew it was the perfect place for us.
“We are thrilled to be joining the community of independent businesses in the Cathedral Quarter, Derby, the area has a great vibe and cultural presence.
“We’re excited to see the Cathedral Quarter continue to grow and flourish into a quality visitor destination.”
