Shop plan for former Bull’s Head
A WELL-known pub in Ilkeston which was sold by its owners could be turned into a shop.
The Bull’s Head, in Little Hallam Hill, was closed in January 2020 when brewer Greene King decided to sell the building.
Since then construction crews have been present on the site, and planning permission was granted in January this year to turn it into a B&B and build housing on the site.
However, the developer now appears to have scrapped the B&B part of these plans.
According to a new planning application submitted to Erewash Borough Council, the main building could now be turned into a retail store and flats.
The five two-bedroom homes which are set to be built to the rear of the pub, which had been previously approved, will continue to remain part of the plans.
Although the name of the retailer who would run the store has not been revealed, some details have been made public.
The store would be served by 11 parking spaces to the side of the property, with a new delivery yard installed to the rear.
A new extension would be built for the shop, while an ATM would also be installed next to the public entrance to the building.
According to the planning application the retail unit would have two full-time and five parttime employees, with opening hours between 6am and 10pm, seven days a week.
The upper floor would be converted to allow the installation of three one-bedroom flats.
Under plans approved last year, the part of the building that is set to become a shop had been due to be turned into a micropub, with extensions to be added the building to allow it to be a B&B.
The five homes built to the rear of the building, which are still part of the new plans, had been added to pay for the refurbishment and renovation of the pub building itself.
The original building is believed to have been built, or been the site of a pub, since the 17th century.
After its closure the pub, which is passed by thousands of motorists a day, had been targeted by arsonists and left derelict before work began on the site.
