Leaders dumped out of Cup by Division Two side

SECOND Division Derby United pulled off an upset by dumping Midlands Regional Alliance Premier Division leaders FC Sunnyhill out of the MRA Challenge Cup.

Skipper Sam Holdgate headed visitors Derby into a first-half lead, Charlie Fearn-Wright doubled their advantage from the penalty spot after the break and Jonathan Baka’s late goal for Sunnyhill was not enough.

Willington progressed in the same competitio­n with a 3-2 win away to Mickleover RBL Reserves.

Division One leaders Newhall United cruised through in the Junior Cup, beating Willington’s reserves 5-0 with goals from Kyle Clamp, Josh Dutton, Nathan Bowen (2) and Tom Hammerton.

Two Premier Division fixtures went ahead.

Jack Hibbitt, Jack Morley, Elliott Wright, and Michael Bestwick scored in Little Eaton’s 4-0 win over Shirebrook Rangers, while Ashbourne Reserves beat Mayfield 2-1.

Melbourne Dynamo Reserves beat Aston Village 4-1 to close the gap on Newhall.

Finlay Charles, Toby Foxon, Joe Shadbolt, and Alex Walsh scored for Dynamo with Niall Worrall on target for Aston.

Mickleover Athletic beat Burton United 4-1 with Dominic Hurst, Alex Lawrence, Jamie Laird, and Toby McCabe on target and George Morgan replying. Bargate Rovers beat Wirksworth Ivanhoe Reserves 3-2.

AFC Real Medina stayed ahead in Division Two by beating Markeaton 2-1 with Ben Holder bagging a brace and Toby Knutton replying.

Newhall United Reserves are second after beating Punjab United 4-2 with goals from. Aaron Whetton, Brandon Edwards and Tom Hall.

Inter Belper beat Holbrook St Michael’s Developmen­t 3-2.

The biggest score of the weekend saw Castle Donington Reserves thrash Pinxton United 10-2.

Scorers for Castle Donington were Isaac Nkrumah (2), Scott Bucknall (2), Jordan Davies, Red Brownett, Lee Beaken, and a hattrick from substitute Harry Ollerensha­w.

Connor Brentnall and Michael Flint netted for Pinxton.
