Delivery man spun robbery lie after van was stolen with keys in

A HERMES delivery driver from Derbyshire made a false claim he had been dragged from his hire van and robbed when in reality he had left the keys inside it.

A court heard Cameron Tryner’s vehicle was taken when he got out and went down an alleyway next to a convenience store.

Afraid of what the repercussions would be for him, the 27-year-old contacted the police and gave a statement saying he had been robbed.

But after officers viewed CCTV from the Go Local shop his lies were uncovered. And he even appeared at Derby Crown Court, sitting at Nottingham Crown Court, over Face Time on his barrister’s phone while sat in a car.

Recorder Adrian Reynolds asked Tryner: “You are in a car, is that right?” The defendant replied: “I am in a car, I have pulled over: I am not driving.”

Recorder Reynolds said: “I am not prepared to sentence you sitting in a motor car. I am very disappointed you do not have enough respect for these proceedings to be somewhere appropriate.

“You will next appear at Derby Crown Court and I am not going to ask for a pre-sentence report. If you [addressing Denny Lau, his barrister] can persuade a judge not to send him down it will be on that date.”

Amy Earnshaw, prosecuting, said the offence took place on January 16 of this year. At the time Tryner, of Alfreton, was working as a delivery driver for Hermes.

Miss Earnshaw said: “At around 10.40am, he went with a delivery and parked his van in Manvers Street, off Station Road, in Shirebrook. The defendant’s vehicle was taken, he had left the keys inside it.

“He called the police and made a statement saying he had been dragged out of the vehicle.

“The officers then viewed CCTV from the Go Local store which showed him go down an alleyway leaving the van unattended.

“When he was interviewed he admitted he had given a false account to the police saying he did it as he did not wish to pay for the missing parcels which would have happened as he had left the keys in the van.
