Danger driver caught by our Traffic Cops...and a speed camera!
A DRIVER led police on a chase through the Peak District without any tyres after the suspect’s wheels were punctured twice by a Stinger, before the vehicle crashed into a speed camera.
The incident can be seen in a new episode of Traffic Cops, featuring Derbyshire police, to be aired tonight on Channel 5.
The chase was sparked after officers from Derbyshire police tried to box in the car. It took off dangerously and at speed as a police officer tried to open the driver’s door.
A high-speed and extremely hazardous pursuit ensued through narrow roads, making it virtually impossible for police to overtake and stop the vehicle.
The footage shows the pursuit passing Haddon Hall on the A6 before travelling through Rowsley, where the suspect lost a tyre, and Darley Dale, where the suspect narrowly misses a pedestrian about to cross the road before losing control, and hitting a speed camera
Even after two sets of stingers destroyed all four of the car’s tyres, the driver had continued on rims until the vehicle eventually crashed.
The chase features in tonight’s new episode of Traffic Cops which will be shown on Channel 5 at 8pm.
The show’s 22nd series focuses on
Derbyshire’s road policing teams and features a behind-the-scenes look at how the county’s officers deal with traffic-related incidents.
Last week’s episode saw police officers in Derbyshire halting a vehicle and arresting its driver. The footage showed officers boxing in a Fiat 500 alleged to have been driven in a dangerous manner on the M1. The driver, smelling of alcohol, was dragged out, he refused a breathalyser and was arrested.
