A 63-YEAR-OLD woman assaulted a man at a Derby pub before going on to urinate in the back of a police vehicle and racially abuse an officer.

Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court heard how Patricia Sutton carried out the attack at the Thomas Leaper, in Iron Gate, on December 28.

After being called to the scene to arrest the defendant, officers witnessed her carry out the disgusting act while transporting her to St Mary’s Wharf police station.

Once there she went on the assault and shout abuse at other officers.

Her offending put her in breach of a suspended sentence, imposed less than two months ago for assaulting two police officers in Bedford.

And even as she was being taken down, when magistrates jailed her, Sutton, of Exeter Place, continued to shout and scream loudly in the courtroom.

Jailing her for a total of 28 weeks, magistrates said: “The first thing we have to consider is whether or not to activate the suspended sentence you received here on November 4.

“We could not find any reason why it would be unjust to do so, so we are.”

Sutton appeared from custody to enter guilty pleas to six counts in total.

They were the assault at the popular and well-known Wetherspoon pub, three counts of assaults on emergency workers, criminal damage and using racially-aggravated insulting words or behaviour. All of them took place on either December 28 or 29.

As well as jailing her, magistrates ordered the defendant to pay £50 compensation to each of the four people she assaulted and £60 compensation to pay for the deep clean needed on the police vehicle.

Sutton was also ordered to pay a £156 victim surcharge.
