New firefighters being recruited in Derbyshire, on pay of £24K-plus
DERBYSHIRE Fire and Rescue Service are hiring a number of full-time firefighters for the new year to respond to fires, road traffic collisions and specialist rescues throughout the county.
New recruits could make up to £32,224 a year with salaries starting at £24,191 per annum working with the fire service.
The service is looking for residents from Derbyshire who are confident in and around water and have no known phobias of heights or confined spaces.
However, residents from outside
Derbyshire can apply for the role if they are currently serving or have previously served in the armed forces or are a current Derby Fire and Rescue Service employee.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service says: “The role of a modern firefighter is extremely varied. You should be a confident communicator as firefighters spend a huge amount of time engaging with, and educating people from different communities to help prevent emergency incidents occurring.”
Applicants need to be able to meet required fitness standards and be able to swim 100 meters unaided as well as tread water for one minute.
Training is expected to commence on June 6 and applicants must be at least 18 years of age before this date. Applicants must also have a full valid UK manual car driving licence.
The training course is 15 weeks and is set to be completed by midSeptember. Prior to this, there will be both a swimming and fitness test for applicants throughout the year.
Two GCSEs or equivalent (grade C or 4 and above) in English and maths are required as well as a medical check and eyesight examination.
A basic criminal records check will also be completed on applicants.
The fire service also says that a GCSE in science (grade C or 4 and above), a British Sign Language qualification, and fluency in a second language are also desirable criteria.
Applications for the position opened on Monday and are set to close on Monday, January 17.
