- By ALAN HOULDSWORTH

B&S Stone celebrated their fourth win of the season as the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation had to delay their latest meeting.

They were at Marlborough and pigeons were due to be liberated on Saturday morning but bad weather meant the release was pushed back 24 hours.

The race began on Sunday at 10.45am in a light north-east wind and the Stones led the way for Holbrook.

Their winning bird clocked 1305 yards per minute, with Mick Fearn taking second and third in 1300 and 1299.

Trevor Jennings was fourth in 1272.

Seven Etwall & District Flying Club members sent 100 birds, with A Peach & Son enjoying a clean sweep, taking the first four positions.

Getting the red card was a yearling black cock registering 1249, followed by a threeyear-old blue hen doing 1238 and a two-year-old cheq hen recording 1229.9, while a yearling cheq hen clocked 1229.3 to take fourth.

In the Osmaston Park Homing Society race, eight members sent 94 birds, with Glew & O’Donnell taking the red card with a four-year-old cheq hen doing 1239.

That was followed by last week’s winners the Johnson Family (Daniel, Sharon, Libby and Lea) taking second, third and fourth with a two-year-old cheq cock (1223), a yearling blue cock (1223.3) and a red yearling cock (1221).

The Derby Burton & District South Road Federation were at Exeter and released their birds a day earlier than the scheduled Saturday slot because of the bad weather forecast.

Pigeons were liberated at 6.30am in a light, south-east wind. Stewart Wainwright won the Kilburn race with a dark yearling cock doing 1715.
